Contest Brief

We are looking to create an original character design for a game we are designing. The character is the combination of a Bunny and a Bear. In the game, I expect it to either walk/shuffle hop/jump over objects, idle/sit/stand still. These are some of the qualities I am seeking for:

a1) flash game/vector graphics quality so that it will be easy for us to animate and display clearly on both small and large interfaces.
a2) I might be looking for an iOS7 flat look to the character, but this idea is nott dead set. I am even thinking about having the entire game black and white, but I am not sure how the character will look against a black and white in game background(have not designed that yet, but i am thinking about very simple no detail all structure type of background)
a3) big head small body(or no body all head) look
b) The top of the head needs to be designed in a way where it will look ok if I put a box or something on the top of his head, but look ok without anything
c) I would prefer no arms. Maybe a hint of arms would be acceptable so that I do not have to animate arm swings
d) The character should not be scary/creepy looking, have cute qualities, but not so overly cute that a 30 year old male would find it childish or repulsive.

character positions needed:
front, side, back, hoping/jumping stance, 1 walk frame

target audience:
15-30 year old male and female

*Characters MUST be original as I need to own the copyright of your winning creation for my development*
*the Winner MUST provide a professional copy of the character positions mandated by this contest (preferably through illustrator/photoshop/etc) Layered, not merged so that I can make good use of your creation*
*The Winner MUST sign off and pass the ownership of their original character to our company*

Hi Steve, I saw some nice work there and it pushed me to give it another go. This time I focused on the design (3 versions) instead of going for the front/side/back/walk/jump poses, that I will deliver if any of them is the winner. Does it sound good for you? Good work everyone!

  Hi Adrian,
  I actually do like your designs a lot. You have a very professional touch, especially the fact that you are the only one that successfully utilized my black and white concept. My only reservation right now is that it doesn't have that "kick" some of these other submissions have, in the sense of a "spot it from a mile away that's the new character from that new game" original character, you know what i mean?

  Hi Voodoossj,
  almost all of the ones i've rejected either looked like cats or are people who didn't put in any samples and are just bidding on a contract. I was actually hesitant about rejecting your submission, but I eventually rejected it because yours looked more like a caricature than an original character is the best way I can describe it. I hope you know what I mean by that, cause I know it's vague but I don't know how else to describe my thought=) If you want an example of a style that I'm leaning towards, in addition to saiyaneia and olashes' submissions, there is an iOS app called Wide Sky. That porcupine just looks so right and yet simplistic. It's cute but not feminine. I hope that helps you out with your submission

Hi Guys, thanks for all of the responses! I am so inspired by all your inputs that I've decided to make this contest guaranteed.

- Right now, I think olashes and saiyaneia's designs are closest to something I can work with. However this is just the contest's first day, so I am still very much open minded in any additional styles

- olashes, I said in my specs that "The top of the head needs to be designed in a way where it will look ok if I put a box or something on the top of his head, but look ok without anything", so I'm not sure how your character will handle that? Also, I'm not sure what he'll look like walking and hoping, but both the scary and cute bunnies you drew looks awesome!

See my rough sketches.I will be able to supply Png images and the original PSD layered so you can move the legs and even the hands if you want,it will be simple enough to animate the hands and give more dynamism to it's moves like walking or jumping.
