Contest Brief

I'm currently developing a software application for a car service workshop for repairing and maintaining vehicles.

The application controls the communication with the different controllers (computers) inside the car.

The application helps the service technician to read out failure codes and the state of health of a vehicle.

The software is a windows based application which runs on a typical PC (Laptop) with a small or midsize screen (14”).

The software is connected to the internet to gather third party information and with the help of an external hardware device to the vehicle itself (via OBD connector).

For this software I need a status bar. The status bar shows different information about the general connection status of the application between the vehicle, the PC and the internet.



The task is to design and create the task bar concept and its dedicated graphical elements (e.g. icons):

Create an application status bar including the following information:


1) Battery charger connection status
Information to show: connected / not connected / unknown connection state

2) Online mode indicator
Information to show: online / offline

3) Battery loading state
Information to show: battery full, battery Charging, battery 75% , battery 50% , battery 25%, battery Critical, battery empty

4) WiFI Network connection strength indicator
Information to show: No connection, connection at 25%, connection at 50%, connection at 75%, connection at 100%

5) Application Connection status:
Information to show: offline without car, Online with car



6) Simulation mode
In some cases there is no car available so you can run the application in simulation mode. This should be shown to the user in order to prevent him to be connected to the car but working accidentally in Simulation mode.

7) Connection status computer to external communication interface
Information to show: connected / not connected

8) Connection status external OBD communication interface to car
Information to show: Connected / Not Connected


All icons should be delivered as scalable vectors.

Target display size for Icons 1, 2, 3, 4 is 32x32 pixel as well as 64x64
Target display size for Icons 5, 6, 7, 8 is 32x96 pixel as well as 64x192
