Contest Brief
I'm redirecting my career from business analysis to information design, and so need a professionally designed website that I can create and manage in wordpress (that's wordpress.org).
Whatever you create can be handed over to me, with documentation, for me to use as a basis to create my own wordpress site.
The short version of my requirements -> see this ... http://mayerdemo.wordpress.com/ . I want something like this blog theme that includes a landing page, and work portfolio. Keep reading for the long version of my requirements.
Requirements:
- the site must look and feel lively, fresh, contemporary and, at the same time, look great with lots of text content. This is a writer's portfolio site, not a web designer's portfolio site.
- a landing page, which may be integrated with the blog home and portfolio home pages.
- I want the landing page to highlight my services: information design, technical writing, content strategy, copywriting, editing, copy editing and proofreading
- the landing page is a "single long page", which may scroll down or horizontally.
- an identifying brand logo or banner that can work on the landing page, plus html emails, favicon.
- a blog home page
- blog posts
- writing portfolio area, with a portfolio 'home' page that has work samples and projects attached. Again, you may integrate with the landing page
- a client testimonials area - again, may integrate with landing page
- a contact page with a contact form. Must have spam protection, be easy for clients to use to submit a request for work (large text field, ability to add attachments)
- an 'about me' page or area on a page
- transition between pages or area is smooth and natural to the user, and also a little interesting.
- I would like the ability to render each page as pdf
- must look good on any device.
The audiences I'm hoping to attract to my site:
- primary - clients for my freelance business
- secondary - potential employers, other writing professionals
How will someone know about my site:
- clicking through from a link on an email sharing my blog
- selecting a link they received personally from me by email
- SEO - key words: technical writing, information design, content strategy, technical communication, copywriting, editing, proofreading, copy editing
I do not want my site to look like these [boring, mundane, out-of-date] technical writing blog sites:

I like these easy to read, exciting, branded sites:
Address: http://www.annaholmes.com/
What you like about this site: Brief and to the point. A reader can scroll down and within 5 minutes understand who Anna is and what she offers. The colour scheme and type fits with her personality and publications. Looks good on any device and any screen size.

What you like about this site: The simple clean readable look and feel. Within 5 minutes of scrolling down you know what this site is about and if what it offers is relevant to your needs. Section numbering sits at the top of the page (although it could be clearer) so the user knows where they are. Ability to download content. Supporting detail is linked to, does not clutter the page. Interesting use of green colour.

What you like about this site: Well, I had to find a non-fiction freelance writer's site that looked reasonable, and this is one of the better ones. Most are awful. However, the site does give a good idea of the nature of the content that I plan to display, although my speciality is as an IT / technical / business communication writer.
I've tried unsuccessfully to design my own site. I just don't have the visual design skills or patience, so don't laugh -> you're benefiting.

“Nguyen did a great job. He was willing to try out ideas during the bid process, then he worked hard to deliver the site. He communicated frequently, and always confirmed changes were accepted. ”
