Contest Brief

Vintage illustration with typography and pictographic centered around the theme of Iceland and the music industry. With a wordlist and pictographic inspired by Icelandic elements.

For the graphics, the Icelandic elements being volcano, ice (glaciers), iconic Icelandic birds (white-tailed eagle, crow, puffin), Reykjavík city landmark / the capital of Iceland (Hallgrímskirkja), whales. Other graphics that relate to music, such as a vintage microphone, guitar and so forth. The icon ideas provided are not the exact icons to be used, rather to help show what the icons should or could show. The style of the icons / graphic is like technical drawings in black and white as seen in the example.

The wordlist is also connected to graphic elements in many ways, as the years are important dates in our culture, some are phrases or words from local lyrics and so forth.

Its not an illustration of random icons and text, vintage illustrations have typography and graphic elements elegantly placed in a way it tells a story. Have a look at the sample provided to indicate the style we are going for along with the Moodboard.

The illustration should fit an A4 page and end result in vector format (pdf, ai). The detail / density of text vs icons in the A4 can be visioned as a 5x7 grid with text, graphic or the combination of both in each cell. Background should be black (#141414) and text white or inverted.

This illustration will be part of the brand seen in "Logo_sample.png" and will be used in backgrounds and support graphic around the brand, but the logo will not be part of the illustration and never going to be used behind the logo either.

    Hi, good day! I have few questions: 1. Do you want all the words in that vintage style typographic font? 2. If not all the words, then, a combination of how many icons vs. how many words? 3. Need random placement? Or, geometric placement like louis vuitton? 4. How many of the elements + texts in a4? any ballpark guess?

      Hi, thank you for the clarifications. Seen both the typographic moodboards. Drawing first draft trying to mimic the left moodboard with mostly horizontal texts. Would appreciate your written feedback on necessary changes, to prepare the second draft.
