ASP.NET - keep page state when returning to previous page

I have an ASP.NET page with three textboxes where the user can enter search critera: txtCustomerID, txtCustomerName, txtContractID and then click the link button lnkSearch.

In an UpdatePanel the result is shown in a DataList.

When clicking on a record in the DataList the user is taken to another page. When clicking the return button on this page the user is taken back to the original page but the DataList in the UpdatePanel isn't visible. I want it to be visible without use of sessions and without a new trip to the database.

You just have to show me how to make the DataList in the UpdatePanel to be visible when returning to this page from another page, all other details are unrelevant. I don't have time to anonymize and attach my mockup files so you have to create sample files yourself.

Possibility for more work for user with fast delivery.
