Written Assignment – Use the written assignment for this class to more closely examine the issues, trends, and facts on a specific international topic related to improving the well-being of children and youth. You have the option of focusing on a particular country or region not covered in your readings. Connect the topic in some way with at least one of the cross-cutting themes of the course: globalization, technology access and use, educational innovation, risk and resilience, resource inequalities, gender issues, children’s right to participation, and effective intervention practices in diverse cultural settings. Be creative!

Your paper should consist of two parts: Part 1 - (7-9 pages) a summary of the recent professional literature related to the topic, and Part 2 - (1-3 pages) – a discussion of insights gained from an in-depth interview with at least one individual with significant first-hand experience related to your chosen topic. Individuals you might interview include (but are not limited to) international students, professionals who have worked in the country you are targeting, a global studies teacher, and parents of children adopted from a foreign country.

This assignment provides an opportunity for you to pursue a topic of interest in more depth, to integrate information and concepts from course content as well as additional sources, and to further explore current scholarly literature in the field. Papers should be between 8-10 double-spaced pages (including references) in length, and a minimum of ten (10) professional references used in the paper should be listed using APA format. (Students from majors using other style formats will be permitted to use the accepted norm in their discipline.) Your paper will be evaluated on quality and depth of content, presentation of ideas (clearly articulated, effectively organized, free of errors), and quality and quantity of references. You can submit this assignment anytime during the course, but it must be submitted by the deadline . Late papers will not be accepted.
