Here is a brief writing sample of a paper I recently wrote on the EU internal market: In 1951, for the first time in history, six European countries, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, created a unified economic treaty to coordinate the production of coal and steel in Europe (Europa, 2012). In the decades following, the European Union has imposed the creation of “the internal market,” or the institution of a single European marketplace to promote the free trade and movement of goods, services, capital, and persons (Barnier, 2010.). The creation of the internal market is a hugely significant policy for European businesses for several reasons. Second, it gives businesses the flexibility to select the location of their business operations freely and efficiently, without facing discrimination in the form of higher taxes (Barnier, 2010).
