We need a Chumby Widget (Flash Lite 3) which will be uploaded to the user's Chumby device via the Chumby site. It will load JPG thumbnail images of videos and then play the video when it's clicked, similar to the functionality of the Big Brother widget ( [login to view URL] )
The four screens are shown below.
In the first, the thumbnails on the right side would slowly scroll upwards.
Every 30 seconds or each time the widget is loaded, a different video would swap to be the main larger image.
The text beneath the larger thumbnail will also change to be a description of the larger video.
The second screen is simply static and rendered in Flash. It requires the user to press Continue to proceed. Exit goes back to the first screen.
The third screen is the video playing (as the video is 16:9 and the Chumby screen is 4:3, the video is at the top of the screen with a title graphic jpg below).
The fourth screen shows what happens if the video is touched while it is playing. The progress line moves to the right to show how much of the video has played thus far and the readout shows it in time played of total time as well.
As our content isn't “mainstream” and will likely not be listed in the public section of the Chumby site, we'll need a two part process to update the content. (Normally, a public widget can be changed by the publisher and the new version is simply sent to the Chumby devices.)
The user will download a “loader widget”, thumbnail, and “customizing widget” from our site. He will then, in turn, upload this to his Chumby device via the Chumby site. ( [login to view URL] )
That “loader widget” will load the current content .swf from our server.
As we need the updates to occur by folks un-versed in Flash but capable in Fireworks, the content .swf will load the various pieces from JPEGs to create changing portions of the screen. (JPGs as Flash Lite 3 doesn't support GIF.)
In other words, a text file on the server would indicate the contents:

and so forth. The content swf would determine the number of videos from the text file and load the pieces and present them to the Chumby device as shown in the screens. The sizes of each item will be consistent.
Specific articles referencing the development of Flash files for the Chumby device are available at

We figure this should cost around $250 and we need it completed within two weeks.
