We'd like to create a prototype for a device that sends a SMS every time the device comes out of water.
The device will be submerged in sea water for around 12 months from a depth of 3m to 50m.
It will be pulled to the surface every day. It will remain out of the water for 1 minute to 5 minutes.
When it breaches the surface, it will immediately send a SMS advising:
1. ID
2. Date and time it breached the surface
3. GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude)
4. Battery voltage
The device needs to be battery powered and work off a 3G cellular network. I will supply SIM. Operation will be in Australia.
As a prototype/proof of concept, it would be expected that the battery will last at least 1 month and use readily available and cheap batteries eg. AA. Future refinement will see battery life extend to 1 year.
We will provide the underwater housing, so this does not need to be designed at present.
We believe the hardest part will be determining how to activate the device. Options considered:
1. Pressure sensor - when the sensor reads normal atmospheric pressure, it sends SMS.
2. Water sensor - these sensors detect the presence of water. Water across the probe allows current to flow, indicating it is still in water. This type of sensor is not favourable because of the limited time the device will be out of the water. It does not provide an opportunity to dry across the probe, hence a SMS will not be sent.
3. Float switch - When float is up, device is off. When float does down (as it comes out of water), device turns on. There are several issues with this including 1. float arms are very likely to break 2. Device will seldom land flat.
Whilst the device is out of the water, it will send a SMS every 30 minutes. When it is back in the water, it will cease transmitting.
There may be ways to overcome the challenges faced using the proposed sensors. Perhaps you have a different idea - we'd love to hear about it. We believe the sensor will be the weak point in the device because it needs to be exposed to some extent, hence our focus on this area. Other parts will remain within the housing.
It must be remembered that these will be deployed in a very harsh environment including salt water, complete immersion, pressures up to 5 ATM, substantial impact from being knocked about reefs, seas and swells exceeding 6m, marine growth, and being attacked by inquisitive marine animals. It also needs to be able to immediately recognise when it comes out of the water.
The device will work from a 3G or 4G network. It will use GPS or GPRS to obtain latitude and longitude. We are concerned about GPS draining the battery quickly. We are concerned that GPRS may not work as the device will be located approximately 5-6km from the nearest tower, and signal from other towers may not exist, be unreliable, or non-existent.
When selecting components, please consider quality, availability and price. Components should be able to be sourced easily, especially in Australia and India.
Deliverables for this project include:
1. Provision of design documents, codes, parts list, construction instructions etc.. It is expected that this can be taken to any electrical engineer who can develop exactly the same device - no questions asked.
2. The prototype itself. We expect that deliverable 1 will be performed so well that we can order the components and construct ourselves, and upload code to make it work.
3. Intellectual Property - all IP will be handed over. As much as we like you, we want to be able to shop the design around for large scale manufacturing, or build it in-house using your detailed instructions.
4. Product cost - we want the cost of the components clearly outlined, along with construction time ie. how long will it take someone to construct this when they have everything in front of them.
We will be testing the prototype and will have to work with you to develop the product further.
Hello
I have got your job posting “data logger” and I am very much interested to work in your project. I am a circuit designer and have more than 5 years experience of working with the embedded systems(Arduino,Rasberry pi ,ARM processors ,PIC microcontrollers,Wireless boards,TFT Touch Displays,All types of sensors and actuators). i have done tons of similar projects So, I think you’ll find, I have the skills you’re looking for. For more on my skills and successfully finished projects, please have a look on my Profile and Portfolio.
I have all the components available here with me so i will develop a working prototype according to your specifications and then send you the code and schematics so things will work for sure.I will remotely guide you and help you build the system on your side.I also offer unlimited revisions of the code and you get timely updates of the project.
I am always available on Email and Skype. Please have a voice or video chat if necessary. I will be available more than 60 hours per week and able to start your project as soon as possible according to you.
Thank you for your consideration,
Best Regards,

Hello dear
I have experience in designing electronics circuits and can make your project. I will make your project practically on breadboard and will provide you circuit, code and PCB design.I can also develop android apps that can communicate with hardware. If you wish we can discuss in chat.
Hi,
I am a post graduate power electronics engineer and having very good experience in product design and development. I am excellent in embedded programming using pic and dspic controllers for Power projects, Boot loaders, EEprom. I designed sine wave inverters for standalone and grid tie Inverters. I designed projects like Off line UPS up to 3 KVA, synchronous rectifiers, Solar MPPT chargers, Battery chargers ,Grid tie inverters design with PLL and feedback control circuit emergency light of 66W and Online UPS control cards, Battery Charging power supplies, LED drivers for PWM controlling and dimming, SMPS, Power supplies. I have experience in schematics and PCB design experience in Altium and ORCAD. I am ready to work for you. Please contact for further discussion.
Hello,
I can help you with your Arduino project , but. I need more information about your project like deadline and other things.
I can write your Arduino code on a short period of time! many thanks
If you have any questions feel free to ask and contact me before your order.
Thank you and Have a good day, John
Hello,
Could you provide more details about the project?
What exactly do you need?
Thanks

Hi,
I have 16 years of design and development experience in the field of Embedded systems and micro-controllers therefore I am confident that I can do your this data logging project.
You can see my clients reviews and the projects I did and my project completion percentage.
Looking forward to more conversation regarding your project.
Best Regards.
Hi,
I worked similar project before.
And now I have working Arduino datalogger:
- cyclic data store
- no loss data and not destroy FAT on power loss
- record length is fixed
- data is stored on SD card and is possible to export to WEB or PC
I can do your project.
Please send me details.
Regards,
Slavi.
I already made a data logger system based on Arduino and SD card interface , along with external sensors . The communication protocol SPI was chosen and details were coded .
Please see my profile , It has reviews and high rated feedbacks and depicts different services I provide .
Looking forward to seeing more from you .
Take care and have a great day .
Best Regards

Hello,
Im a embedded developer, I have experience with microcontrollers, arduino, stm32, sensors, control systems, etc.
Feel free to provide more details, I will can help.
Probably I can help you, I have to know exactly what do you want to do. You can do it with PIC of microchip too. I think it can be the best for your project.
I was doing a project of my own for a remote weather station that worsk of a battery and solar panel and is predocted to work indefinitely or at least till the battery dies. Battery powered devices like this require a very low power circuit so I guess my knowledge can help in making your project a reality. Cheers. Looking forward to work with you.
