This is a research project to investigate the data formats, transfer methods, etc. used within a specific field. The field in question is rental accommodation in the UK. I am aware of a number of software packages used by letting agents to keep track of their accommodation. They can generally store details of all the properties they have available to let on the software. In many instances, they are able to use the information they have entered on their system to upload to several websites - this is a big saving for them, since they don't have to re-enter the information for every site they want to advertise the accommodation on. I have a website that provides lists of accommodation available to rent. I am considering extending it to provide this sort of upload capability, but I want to know about the current state of play in this area. (Note the question is not about the specific programming changes I would need to make to my site, but about all the other websites and software packages, and how integration with/between those works.) You will need to investigate the software packages and websites to find out what methods are in use. You may be able to find out some of this information by scouring the relevant companies' websites, but you might also need to contact them directly to ask questions if the information isn't published online. ## Deliverables Detailed report outlining all the information I would need regarding developing the ability of my site to receive information from software packages. Including: * Data formats * Data transfer methods * Ability to work with different packages (i.e. which software packages could be made to communicate with my site) * Uploading of photos Some important questions will be: * Is there a standard (or semi-standard) data format that most or all software packages can output to? * How is data transfered? Is it a 'push' mechanism from the agent, or a 'pull' mechanism instigated by the website? * Because I only have a relatively small site, I guess the large software developers would not be interested in changing their software to upload to my site - do they provide a default format, or a method that their users can operate to allow this to happen? Amongst the software packages that you will need to investigate are: * CARL ([login to view URL]) * CFP ([login to view URL]) * Encore ([login to view URL]) * Dez Rez ([login to view URL]) * Vebra ([login to view URL]) Others might include: * ProMan ([login to view URL]) * Multi-User ([login to view URL]) With yet more listed at: [login to view URL] Amongst the websites that you might find useful to investigate are: * [login to view URL] * [login to view URL] * [login to view URL] * [login to view URL] (related to the Encore software?) Basically, if I provide this service for agents, it will make it easier for them to use my site if it can work with their package. So I want to know as much as possible about the different packages they use, and making them communicate with a website system. I would like the report to be as verifiable as possible. So, where you find information online, please include a URL for it in the report. Also, provide sources for other information (e.g. details of emails, if you have obtained the information that way). 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Research report - document. I'm not too bothered about the format of the document, as long as I can easily use and access it (word document, OpenOffice document, html document...). PDF probably wouldn't be ideal, since I might want to edit it later.
