Since January 1998, the Democracies Online Newswire [login to view URL] has shared e-mail announcements related to the Internet and democracy, politics, and government. DoWire is a free public service of my (Steven Clift) small one person "e-democracy" public speaking and consulting outfit http://www.publicus.net. DoWire currently reaches 2650 direct e-mail subscribers and many others through its basic web archives. I have decided to upgrade the web interface to DoWire messages, change mailing list packages (DO-WIRE is currently on LSoft's Listserv at a remote site and a dozen or so smaller DO- discussion lists are on Yahoogroups), and build a platform for information sharing among those helping build the future of democracy in the information-age. This request for proposals/bids seeks a programmer who can build the back-end system I need and provide me the tools to easily finesse the front-end design to my demanding usability specifications. My goal is to deploy as much required technology and customization as possible for around $1000 and have it up and running within one month. After which time I hope to develop a relationship for occasional assistance at an agreed upon hourly rate. In the end, [login to view URL] needs to be viewed by the average Internet user as both a weblog and an e-mail announcement list. The site will need a Content Management System (CMS) to provide a foundation for an expanding array of online community features.
