We want to run a Ruby on Rails application and a CMS on the same domain.
The idea is to write an Apache configuration file which would check the path and route the requests to the correct server.
This job would include several parts:
1) Take two Apache configuration files and merge them into one, based on URL matching.
2) Separate the URL match rules into an external file that will be included in the Apache config file, so that it can be updated by a script.
3) Create a Ruby Rake task which would read the Rails [login to view URL] file and create the URL matching rules from that automatically. This task will run in the deploy script.
If you're not 100% sure about this, but are very proficient in Ruby and Apache configuration files, contact me here and I'll clarify.
I will supply the current working Apache config files for RoR and the CMS, which will serve as the starting point for this project.
## Deliverables
You will need to debug this on your environment. You'll need a Linux box with Ruby on Rails installed.
For testing, any trivial Rails application would be OK. We will supply you our Apache config files but not our Rails application. You will need to write a tiny 'hello world' Rails app to test.
Your delivery should include:
- The Apache config file
- An external file with the URL matching rules
- The Rake file which generates the URL matching file from routes.rb.
It should run on your test server and we need to validate it there. Only then, we will try it on our server.
