Anwering questions about Apache, PHP, MySQL session limits and settings

We expect a huge spike in traffic on our LAMP server. I have to understand how to set Apache, MySQL and PHP settigs to hangle many concurrent sessions. You would have to answer my questions and help be do the settings on my Linux server where I have root access etc. You have to have years of linux system admin expirience and also handled huge traffic spikes in the past.
