Typically these kinds of things are because of some corrupt file somewhere, so once we find the problem usually upgrading the associated program corrects the problem. As far as DOS attacks, you probably want to setup some kind of firewall to automatically detect and block such attacks. Its also possible that the problem is related to your hosting companies particular setup. Some VPS systems can be more finicky than others - if that is the case it might be a good idea to try a different type of vps system. I have been performing tasks such as this on Linux systems for over 10 years and guarantee you will have a more stable system when I am done. Paul
