cs-cart programming

My company uses cs-cart shopping cart system which is open source. Unfortunately in the back end or admin panel when using real time shipping cs-cart does not provide the option to split shipment into multiple boxes. For example if I have an order which weighs 150 lbs the shopping cart will not split it into two 75 lbs boxes. I need to have the function to use more than one box for real time shipping and shipping quotes. My cs-cart program is run on sql database on vps hosting. If you are familiar with programming and database perhaps there is a possible solution. Any solution must be able to be easily reinstalled if I upgrade my shopping cart software or move it to a different web server.
