I am doing a large web project for a research company, and I need to track users using a small executable program. I heard the only way to go about doing this is through ActiveX. I need all users of the research project to come to the specified web page, and have ActiveX immediately download and install the executable file silently. The executable becomes a toolbar for their web browser, and then we can track search engine trends and whatnot, they will have an option to uninstall with ease whenever they choose. Note: To avoid further confusion, this is NOT a request for an IE Toolbar (I've already got that made). This is a request for the ActiveX script to be produced so that our executable can be downloaded and installed silently without initial download consent as soon as the user comes to the specified web page. There are ZERO ads to be delivered. The Trends Tracking Toolbar that it installs will constantly remind the user that he can uninstall the program at any time if he feels the need to. This is not spyware or any malicious program either. The point of this is to research search engine trends from users all over North America and Europe.
