# File / Key Extraction tool We require a tool that will run in the form of a bootable CD to carry out simple file retrieval, renaming and restoration. The tool can be based on Bart PE or Knoppix or other similar approved platform. The tool must not boot the host operating system, or change the structure of the hard disks in any way. The tool will have a very simple user interface - allowing the operator to select the function required. There are two functions of the tool. First it must recover two files and a product key from the resident hard disk and save them to a USB flash drive. Then a new hard disk will be installed and the tool must write the recovered information to this new disk. ## Deliverables ## File / Key Extraction tool We require a tool that will run in the form of a bootable CD to extract / rename and recover files from a resident hard disc. The tool can be based on Bart PE or Knoppix or other similar approved platform. The tool must not boot the host operating system, or change the structure of the hard disks in any way. First it must recover two files and a product key from the resident hard disk and save them to a USB flash drive. Then a new hard disk will be installed and the tool must write the recovered information to this new disk. We will call the two functions 1: BackupXPK and 2: ChangeXPK, the functions of each are detailed below: ## BackupXPK This function will recover the following information from the primary hard disk and write it to a connected USB flash drive (the tool must include basic navigation functions to identify the target directory to save to):- 1. Microsoft XP Product Key 2. C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] 3. C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] When the above information is saved to the selected directory, a confirmation message will be displayed to the operator giving them the option to shut down or repeat the procedure. ## ChangeXPK This function will rename two files on the new primary hard disk as follows:- 1. C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] - C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] 2. C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] - C:\WINDOWS\system32\[login to view URL] Then it will prompt the operator to locate the backed up files (Windows XP Key, [login to view URL] and [login to view URL]) which ‘BackupXPK’ has saved on the USB flash drive. The tool will copy these files to the target directory on the new primary hard disk. When the tool has completed the rename, file copy and XP Key change, it will shut down the machine automatically. ## Deliverables: We require the full source for the bootable image and tool. We also require a compiled .iso image for burning to CD.
