Delphi component - serial port - home weather station interface

Coder will develop a Delphi 5 compatible serial communications component that serves as an interface between home weather stations and Delphi applications. The deliverable must support certain weather station models (see PLATFORM section for types and protocol information). It is assumed the home weather station plugs into a serial port. The coder will develop simple properties and methods to allow the application to set the type of weather station in use and to read the data, without requiring knowledge of streams or serial port details. Elements for all observed conditions such as temperature, pressure, wind speed, and so forth will be presented as read-only properties. The last group of data received from the weather station will be buffered in memory, untranslated, in case further analysis is needed. The code must be readily expandible (thus intuitive to modify) for new protocols to be added. This project will only read the current weather data, and is not expected to manipulate memory data in the weather station or do other complicated functions. The buyer will test the code on his equipment and check for proper operation and stability. The buyer cannot provide equipment to the coder; the coder must be fluent enough to work from the given specs. The coder may give us executables to record serial data samples. Successful work will ensure consideration for future work on this project. ## Deliverables 1) **Component must install easily using install instructions provided by the coder**. 2) **The coder will strive for simplicity, and will comment the code in detail. The code must close memory and threads upon errors or abnormal termination. No third-party components, DLLs, or OCXs will be permitted. This component must be completely self-contained and all necessary serial communications code must be built into this component. The project will not be accepted if it does not compile under Delphi 5.** 3) **Provide one simple demo app to display weather data (text is fine).** 4) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 5) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
