Assessment Details: You will identify a current community issue at a local, national or international level and conduct a detailed analysis of both the project and the processes employed by the decision makers relative to the wellbeing framework (Prilleltensky & Nelson, 2002). You are free to choose any issue, for instance you might examine the decision to close local schools; the Apology to Indigenous Australians and its impact; International aid programmes or anything that has the potential to positively or negatively impact on a community. You should remember that a community can be defined as a neighbourhood, suburb, town or organisation such as a workplace or university as well as a group. Suggested topics: • Racism • Indigenous empowerment • Prejudice • Community leadership • Social justice • Tobacco sales • Poverty • Workplace stress • Drug use • Youth violence Under NO circumstances are you to interview individuals in relation to this project. Assignment Details: You will conduct a class seminar and also write a final report Part one: Class Seminar (30%) – 25 minutes In the seminar you will present your research and analysis of the issue you chose to investigate. This means that you need to identify the various aspects of the issue and how these might impact various stakeholder groups within the community. You must only use public domain documents to inform this debate but I also want you to examine community psychology principles and theories in order to evaluate the processes being enacted in regard to public consultation and the decision making process. You might also consider the processes employed in other developments both locally and nationally/internationally to see if lessons learnt from those have been implemented in the current situation. You will present the information to the class and then facilitate critical debate and discussion around the topic. Part 2 Assignment Details Report (30%) – 2500 words Your report will outline specific advice to the decision making body about appropriate community consultation practices and the reasons behind these in relation to the development that you discussed in the seminar. You will also outline specific advice on the relative merits (or otherwise) of alternative solutions or options and an analysis of the impact of each on the community. *APA REFERENCING STYLE (13 - 16 REFERENCES NEED TO BE USED)
