Analyzing the Job Description
$10-30 CAD
Paid on delivery
Objective
This individual assignment contributes toward increasing personal awareness when looking for a new position and the effectiveness of the organization in hiring the right people for the right jobs. It is linked to the Video Application and Interview Planning Assignments in this course.
A good job description should focus on what job seekers care about the most. As people are all uniquely different, this can be challenging to fulfill. However it is important to understand that what the job seeker is looking for may not be the same things that the organization likes best.
Task
Research and select 2 current job postings that you would consider applying for. (As this assignment is linked to 2 others in this course, it is important that you research and choose positions that you are genuinely interested in).
Using the following list as a guide to what you should be looking for in an outstanding job description, write a 300 word analysis for each of your chosen job postings. Include details as to the extent to which you feel each posting included, met or exceeded the following criteria.
To what extent do your job postings include?
• An attention grabbing title
• Details/examples of what sets them apart as an organization
• A clear call to action (see list of action oriented verbs on Moodle)
• Information about growth opportunities
• Details about exciting new challenges
• Information on working with a phenomenal team
• Specific details about the responsibilities of the position
• Standards of performance and/or expectations behaviour
• Details of the required qualifications and experience versus a list of desired qualifications? or what would be considered an asset
• Genuine examples of both the day to day and/or the more glamorous tasks
• Testimonials from other recently hired team members
• Information and examples about the culture of the organization
• Details of remuneration
The above list may not include every criteria on your list, so be sure to include details on what you are specifically looking for and whether your needs were met.
Using your analysis of each job description, answer the following question:
How likely would you be to apply for the position as advertised?
After completing your analysis of both job descriptions, please post them to Moodle (with copies of the original job descriptions) by 10:00am on Friday September 19, 2014
Assignments will not upload to Moodle after this time and will therefore not be accepted.
