Scenario: We use a commercial product to manage properties and currently have to manually extract information on a regular basis to do a populate a Word document based on a template. This is extremely time consuming so are looking to automate this process. Details: The back-end to the product is a SQL Server database. As it is a commercial product we do not have access to the schema nor can it be modified. We already have the SQL query with the fields that we need to have populated in the Word document. It is anticipated the workflow will going something like this: 1. User opens the Word document template 2. Connection to the database 3. A dialogue box prompts the user to select the property from the database (or they can type the property number if they know it) 4. When the property is selected, the query is run on that primary key and results are returned from the database 5. The Word document is populated and returned to the user for further editing Objective: You will need to write VBA or equivalent using Word and Office to achieve this. The additional software footprint should be minimal for the workstation. Our company uses Office 2010. Resources: For this task, you will be given a login to our network with Remote Desktop Gateway and access to a workstation running Windows 7 with Office 2010 and access to a SQL Server.

Hi, I'm new to Freelancer, and keen to make a good impression. I have an engineering degree from the University of Adelaide, and in my current role as a Petroleum Engineer, I have become an expert in MS Office, and creating SQL reports. I have done work very similar to this in the past, and don't foresee any issues with what you're asking. Depending on the number of fields and the word document itself, I would create a standalone word document which would run a macro to ask the user for input (pick the property from a list) and then return the required information, or pair an Excel spreadsheet to handle and return the data, depending on which method would be the most reliable and user friendly. Either way, there will not be any extra software footprint. This would also make it very easy to update or expand in the future. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Instead of VBA scripting I can design a professional Word Add-in, using .Net, for your organization that shall be accessible through top ribbon like other controls and would populate the Word Doc from SQL database. Hello, I would go with ADO to extract data from the database. The final solution would be VBA based with no third-party software needed. I'm trusted developer - your data will be safe with me. However, I would recommend you to create a copy of the database with test-data only if possible. Thank you.

Hello, I have done tasks like this for my business and many other clients all a like. I would be glad to work with you and do the same. I can set this procedure up however you'd like but my quick thoughts on this project are: 1. User Opens Word Document Application. 2. User presses keyboard shortcut "CTRL + M" to open the Menu. 3. Menu Opens and displays a dropdown list of all primary key values to select from. The User can type in the drop down or just select it with the mouse. 4. Once the parameter is selected then Word executes a procedure that queries the SQL Server for the data and fills the data into Microsoft Word however you like. 5. The new word document is onscreen and user is given control to modify as they see fit. I hope to you grant me the opportunity to help out with this project. Regards, Nathan McDorman
