Bidding (invitation, request and instruction) and Estimates/costing phases in a Design/Construction project in AEC

This assignment develops around the last two lectures (4 and 5) developed in class. You are requested to develop the early phases of bidding requirements (including: invitation and instructions to bidders) and estimates/costing elements (based on quantity take-off and lump- sums/unit pricing-estimates cost based on the square footage/meter) This is an individual assignment where students are encouraged to develop collaborative skills by elaborating role playing of architect (firm) - client and vice-versa. This assignment will help you elaborate the early stages of bidding preparation and estimates costing for the senior project you are undertaking as the practice project for this course. NAAB SPCs to be covered in this assignment are as follow: B7. Financial Considerations (show evidence) Understanding of the fundamentals of building costs, such as acquisition costs, project financing and funding, financial feasibility, operational costs, and construction estimating with an emphasis on life-cycle cost accounting. C3. Client Role in Architecture (show evidence) Understanding of the responsibility of the architect to elicit, understand, and reconcile the needs of the client, owner, user groups, and the public and community domains. C4. Project Management (show evidence) Understanding of the methods for competing for commissions, selecting consultants and assembling teams, and recommending project delivery methods. Practice Management (show evidence) Understanding of the basic principles of architectural practice management such as financial management and business planning, time management, risk management, mediation and arbitration, and recognizing trends that affect practice.
