Correct Layout Issues Ocurring Only in IE

There are a few issues when viewing my site in IE. Specifically, one page has some major (but probably very simple to fix) layout issues where pictures and text do not align properly. The result is that my page looks like a jigsaw puzzle. You can't tell which text goes with which photos. It appears to be scrambled.
Also, my site utilizes a lot of containers on the top level pages (5). Any containers that I didn't extend by adding more content than appeared in the original template are fine. However, the containers that I did add more content than was originally there do not appear correctly in IE. How can I say this....
Say the container was originally three inches tall, but after adding my content it doubled in height to 6 inches on the page, the margins of the container from the 3rd inch down (all additional height) are partially missing. The sides of the container appear to have been clipped out where the additional content sits inside the container. This is only in IE and only occurs until a link has been clicked and then when you revisit the page, it looks just as it does in Firefox browsers.
I would like both of these issues resolved and for the content to be presentable in both major browsers. Also, I would like to have someone run through my 17 page site and check for other issues that are potentially noticeable to visitors of the site. There are 17 pages but most look fine to me in both browsers and most of the ones that do not look right are very simple pages and appear to be simple problems. Trouble is I know very little about the coding it would take to fix it.
