Hello, this project sounds interesting to me, i've done such things before and I want to try to help you with the user/password issue. I have a suggestion to make as well may be you can share a copy of this software (installer/virtual PC copy/just software files+some win registry data) better to test/work on a copy and not on the original software files for beginning.
