Job Description:
I am building a wave buoy with Arduino Uno, Adafruit 9DOF IMU, Arduino Ethernet Shield and a 4G router. I am looking for a code that can accurately detect wave activity using the Adafruit 9DOF IMU sensor and output the results to the cloud platform.
There are a few ways to accomplish this, but the one I understood the best was to use a combination of signal processing and data analysis techniques. First using the accelerometer and gyroscope readings from the IMU sensor to calculate the orientation of the device ( not sure whether only using the Z axis/ Heave, or combining pitch and roll ). We can then use the orientation data to detect peaks and troughs in the wave activity based on some threshold values... values that can be amended.
Once we have detected the peaks and troughs, we can count the number of consecutive peaks and troughs to determine if they meet the set parameter for a wave. If the number of peaks and troughs meets the set parameter, we can then simulate a sinusoidal wave using the detected peaks and troughs.
Finally, we can output the value of all peaks and troughs that made up the detected wave pattern to the cloud platform.
