I am looking for a simple little program that will make my life a lot easier. I require a program that will help my children learn their spellings (I am a primary teacher).
This will be run in Windows XP and can have a Windows or Flash interface. I would like the children to be able to open a file, which will have a list of words, their definitions and some sample sentences.
The children will select their spelling list, then can choose one of the following activities to complete:
1) Letter reveal. A word from the list will be shown in asterixes, with letters from the word appearing as a countdown timer decreases. The children will type in any missing letters to try and beat the timer.
2) Sentence fill. The program will show a sentence containing their word (which will be blanked out), and a choice of three words to go in the gap, one of which is the correct word.
3) Definition. This is similar to the sentence fill game. A definition will be shown, and three words below it, one of which will be correct. Children choose or click on the correct word.
4) The same set-up as Game three, but this time they must spell the word they think the definition is for.
Ideally, I would like the children not to exit the program until they have completed the test, but this is not essential.
Also ideally, I would like them to gain a score at the end of each turn, and for there to be a high score chart linked to the text file. Again, this is not essential, but would be a nice feature.
I would prefer a child-friendly font, such as Comic Sans.
This is for my class of schoolchildren, so would like to have the source code and all copyright for the program.
I can answer any questions you may have regarding this project, and have even ‘mock up’ they way I would like it to look.
Many thanks in advance!
Postscript: This is the second time this project has been opened here, as I made a mistake in the first draft and omitted to attach the mock-ups. Please use the PMB for questions, and look at the .pdf file for further guidance and reference. If you have bid for this before, please bid again!
