Outlook/Excel VSTO add-in for status reporting from SQL table

Requirements: The solution cannot be proprietary, I will need access to edit the code myself for minor changes. I do not need a VBA solution. This must implemented with Outlook/Excel VSTO Add-in w C# or VB.net. I don't know C# or VB.net but I want go that route for ease of installation. -------------------------- 1. Job monitor: -------------------------- 1. Get list of all completed & running jobs(via SQL query/timestamp) between 9:00 PM prev day and till now. Job names are in a text file. Alert when each job completes (end time or a flag) with a Msgbox 2. Every 3 minutes, - get list of running jobs via SQL query. (flag or start_time not null and end_time is null) fromthe list (text file). SQL is a simple select stmt. - For each running job - if status changes from running to completed - Msgbox <Job Name> completed at timeStamp. 3. When all jobs listed in the text file have completed in the list (prev day 9 PM till today), Msgbox "Batch is completed" 4. If batch is complete sleep till next business day to pick up the job list 5. If SQL connection fails, display an error message and terminate the program. The jobs list is a text file with one job name in each line. -------------------------- 2. Status Email: -------------------------- Input: Business Date in an excel file (use this date to query job status for as_of_date) Output: Excel - start(SQL), end(SQL), status=Completed/Running/Not started Email - Status table from above Excel to be copied into email body along with another static Comments table which will have my handwritten comments Actions when clicking the "Send status" Outlook ribbon button: 1. Update Excel - populate start & end times from SQL query and save Excel file. 2. Open Excel template, copy Excel job start-end time table into Template. Copy the Comments table. Open to discussion: 3. Performance Alert: a. Run a SQL query to check for long running jobs. (eg. if now-start_time > 60 mins), then msgbox <Job name>. b. Run long running DB query ( will provide you the SQL), if any are over 60 minutes, msgbox SQL or put it in a blank email. Thanks
