This project is to build a simple macro that I can install into my Outlook 2013 client, and set a rule to use for all incoming airline confirmations from Alaska Airlines.
When it processes an Alaska Airlines flight confirmation email, it should create an appropriate number of new Outlook appointment items with the following details set based on the inbound confirmation email. Below I'll use <<>>'s to indicate fields that should be parsed in the inbound confirmation email and placed into the appointment.
Subject: <<Depart time and timezone>> <<Airline>> #<<Flight #>> - <<Depart airport>>-<<Arrive airport>> arriving at <<Arrive time and timezone>>
Location: Ticket #<<Ticket number>> / Fare: <<Cash fare paid plus any miles paid e.g. $5.00 + 25,000 miles>>
Date: <<Departure date>>
Start time: <<Departure time>>
End time: <<Arrival time>> (may be on next day for overnight flights)
With all those fields filled out, the appointment should be opened on-screen for any final manual editing or overrides or notes.
Note that there could be more than one appointment created from each email, for example an email could have a round trip of 1-stop flights (4 segments = 4 appointments total).
A sample confirmation email from Alaska Airlines will be provided upon request, since it has personal info in it.

Hi there. I have developed several outlook add in's so far and I recommend the same to you. They are far more professional than VBA macros. It shall be installed on your outlook client and would scan every incoming email to separate the flight confirmation emails. Then it would create appointments accordingly. It shall be compatible with outlook 2010 and 2013. Kindly discuss if my proposal interests you, otherwise it can be done in VBA too. Regards.

Hi there,
I would recommend you to use VBA code instead of standard Outlook Plug-In. Why? Please see below:
- standard Outlook Plug-In may require reference to additional built-in DLL's or to a third-party components. It could also be complicated to apply it on different Outlook version, different computer/laptop etc.
- VBA is readable; anyone can read it. Outlook Plug-In is usually compiled in DLL and one cannot read it source code. That means a freelancer could inject your plug-in with unwanted lines of code to allow him/her access to your computer, privacy etc. Of course you could get the source code from a freelancer and compile plug-in by yourself but that would probably initiate additional costs...
So I would go with existing Outlook rules (easier for you to maintain) to move incoming mails to specific folder (in case you receive various types of emails not only itineraries) with the VBA code in background waiting on new messages that are being moved by Outlook rules. Once email get processed it could be either moved to Archive folder (you name it) or marked as complete (check mark)....
Please visit my profile. I'm not doing freelancing often but with have been able to continue work with most of my clients here at freelancer. Of course in such cases we are not using freelancer but straight communication ...
Thank you for your time.
