Active 3D glasses

There are many Active 3D Glasses available, but they require an RF or IR emitter to control them. My idea is to eliminate the emitter, and use the monitor refresh to control the glasses at 120 Hz.
Most gaming monitors have either NVIDIA Ultra Low Motion Blur (ULMB) technology, or ELMB which is similar. ULMP and ELMB are designed to reduce motion blur by keeping the back light off during frame painting, and then flash the light on and off quickly between frames.
The glasses would be synced by holding them in front of the monitor while turning them on (press the button).
Once sync is established, a clock inside the glasses would take over whenever the flash was not detected. If the flash were too early or too late, the clock would be corrected.
Room lighting would interfere with long term sync maintenance , but normally the room lighting is reduced when viewing stereo, so this should not be a problem. If it is, the user can just hold the glasses near the screen, or just lean toward the screen. The glasses will have a small rechargeable battery, so it's necessary to be as efficient as possible. The processor should be turned off if there is no sync detected. Maybe also after every 4 or 8 hours, since we will never know if the user has gone away. It's simple to reinstate by pressing the button.
For the first phase a wired system running at 60 Hz would be sufficient, with a headband to hold the processor and battery. The glasses can be created out of two light valves costing about 3 USD each.
