I can offer you 3D models from those "toys" with the ability to move certain parts and actually see how it works before creating it. After getting the 3D model we can get dxf files for laser cutting of each part and assembly instructions with pictures if needed. Maybe exploded view too for that purpose. Regarding the ideas, I think I could get inspiration from anything, and as long as there is an idea it should be no issue to create any mechanism with proper spacing so that it works. If you want to copy some ideas with slight changes in design that would also be no problem.
