I have a new Cisco Catalyst 2960x switch that needs to be configured and optimized for iScsi traffic. Here are some guidelines to an optimal Catalyst switch configuration for iScsi: [login to view URL] The switch needs to be configured for 2 Vlans, one for ports 1-24, and the second for ports 25-48. The management port also should be configured to be accessible at a designated IP address on our network.

Hello I have 15 years experience of working with Cisco equipment, knowledge of network protocols and solving network problems. I will configure this switch as you ask. The setting that will make iscsi optimization if supported by switch: flowcontrol receive desired AND system mtu jumbo 9000 but they will only work if the connected hosts network adapters also support & configured for this settings. spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst will be effective as well but in case you have only one switch it wont be noticeable. spanning-tree portfast this command does not affect iscsi at all, it only affects a port loop protection discovery process, when this command is used the port will come up without delay after host is connected, if command not used it will take about 30 seconds for port to come up, because of mac-address table and vlan encapsulation checks.
