Download <[login to view URL]> . Open project in Visual Studio .NET 2003. Project is a classic, unmanaged C DLL meant to run as a plug-in for QuickSoft's SMTP Express Pro. (available at : <[login to view URL]> , includes *.chm documentation of functions contained in above DLL)
The Solution:
1) Open the plug-in C DLL in [login to view URL] 2003 IDE, the DLL will compile and work as-is.
2) Create a VB.NET class library project within the solution with a Function that can be called from the unmanaged C DLL within the DLL event:
long SMTPExpressPlugin_Event(PSZ szMsg, PSZ szText, long nCode, long Status, long nPort, PSZ szInfo)
The called VB.NET Function needs to be passed all of the above parameters, and the function needs to block, that is code that is executed in the VB.NET function must complete before returning control to the unamanaged DLL. The VB.NET function simply returns an integer of 0 to the DLL when it is done.
3) modify the unamanged C plug-in DLL to call the VB.NET function within the SMTPExpressPlugin_Event, passing it all of the above parameters.
I realize this is likely a 15 minute project for .NET pros out there, my problem is I have zero experience in calling managed code from unmanaged code, and do not have time to teach myself at this point.
