Simple Report Writer for MS Access / SQL Server

*** Please note: blue is description added sept.30th 2005

**

We have an MS Access/SQL server application, from which we made some exports into independent tables. These tables are siutable for users to making reports by themselves (mostly in MS excel). These tables includes all necessary data for reports - that means no data out from this table is nesessary for the report.

What we need is an user interface (with source code, made in MS Access without 3rd party components or parts of them), which allows making 'variable' reports with charts on chosen fields.

## Deliverables

1)

Example:Table EXP_salley with 14 fields is prepared in SQL database from Access (exported from SQL database to an independent table).

Buyers ID , N, 6,0

Buyers Name , C, 30

State , C, 3

Article sold ID , N, 10,0

Article's name , C, 30

Article's group , C, 5

Quantity , N, 10,3

Unit of measure , C, 3

Ammount 1 , N, 10,2

Ammount 2 , N, 10,2

Ammount 3 , N, 10,2

Discount , N, 10,2

Seller ID , N, 6

Seller's name , C, 30

This table is different each time (we have approx. 30 different tables for now)and we will send you some of them as example. Field names in the tables are different - that means: SW must be independent on table name / field name / field type. Field names, types and lengths will not change, once the table is created, but some new fields may be added in future.

Now we want to make different reports:

1. _Sales to different buyers:_

a. Sorted by buyer's ID

b. Sorted ba buyer's name

c. Sorted by quantity sold

d. Sorted by different ammounts

1. _Sales by seller:_

a. Sorted by seller's ID

b. Sorted ba seller's name

c. Sorted by quantity sold

d. Sorted by different ammounts

1. _Sales by article sold:_

a. Sorted by article's ID

b. Sorted ba article's name

c. Sorted by quantity sold

d. Sorted by different ammounts

Etc, etc,…

All the reports must be user definable: which row first, then, next one, …., which columns to sum at the end and of the report and between the report, …

All reports must include graph at the end of it (pie chart, bar chart, … - selectable!) ??" selected by user. There's a problem, when a lot of different ID's exist in the table (for example buyers) ??" then a pie-chart is divided into too many small pieces. Such a pie-chart is unusble. So we need to choose how many (bigest) buyers must be shown in pie-chart with their names (for example 15 bigest ones), and the others in »rest« part of pie-chart. When user is finished with the report, there must be an option to save the report for next time.

How it must work:

------------------

**Step 1:**

Show all the EXP_* tables availlable (there may be only one or more of them). User must choose one of them by clicking it with mouse.

**Step 2:**

When the table is selected, program must show all "templates" allready done for this table in the past (if they were ever made and saved). There must be an option to "make new tempate" and "edit an existing template" at this moment.

**Step 3a (when "make new template" is choosed):

**

Display all availlable fields for the selected table with their names, types and lengths. By dragging and dropping them to the report, user can make his own report. There must be an option to choose fields, which must be summed at the end of the report. Header of the report must include field names.

User must have possibility to include a chart at the end of report or not to unclude it. If user wants the chart at the end of the report, he can choose between pie-chart or bar-chart.

As mentioned before, there may be a lot of "pie-pieces" - depends on type of the report - so chart may become unusable if there is too many different pieces.

_Example:_ there's a table with our sallery to 200 customers. If you divide a pie-chart into 200 pieces, you will not see nothing anymore. That means, there must be an option to choose how many customers to display in the pie-chart (or bar-chart) by their names and their sallery. Rest of the customers must be shown in "rest" piece of the chart with sum of their sallery.

(SEE PICTURE ATTACHED)

At the end of creating template, user must have possibility to save this template and to name it in the way he wants to.

**Step 3b (when "edit an existing template" is choosed):

**

Edit an existing template and save it as described in step 3a.

**Step 3c (when "use existing template" is choosed):

**

Make the report as defined in chosen template.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, that means, it must be included it into our MS Access application (we have source code for our application)

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
