Hello, I have been facing this issue recently. One of the site forms has been coded to post the data through admin-ajax and it was taking over 1 minute to post. Also due to the fact that admin-ajax is also loaded on each click on the backed, it was a pure hell to navigate in there. Long story short: Each time admin-ajax is loaded it does the same action as when you load the back-end. If there is a plugin issue on the backend (as in my case) then your whole front-end will be affected. In my case there was a plugin doing a wrong SQL query that took a life to load and so affected the backend navigation and consequently the front-end where admin-ajax was used. I am ready to start checking your site right away. I will be needing the logins to WP admin account and also to your hosting in order to easily detect and repair the wrong coding.
