I have a wordpress template I'm happy with, except that it uses cascading menus (you have to click to open a menu that has submenus--and when you add a submenu, you can no longer click on the original link, because now clicking on it expands the menu), and I'd like it to hover, instead (and allow clicks on the top menu to not open the submenu, but go to the link).
I'm hoping to get some custom css I can paste in that will override this behavior in my theme to remove the cascading menus and allow hovering over menus with subitems in the navigation bar.

I used to design serveral wordpress templates for my customer and also used wordpress for 5 years. Beside, I am current work as Front-end Developer that mean I can help you write CSS to override what you need.
