Magento Expert Needed - Use same product image for multiple products

i need to fix magento code.
i need to use same image for multiple products. if you know magento, if i use an existing image on another product it will add the _01, _02, etc to the filename and will create duplicate images. if you know how to fix this the do a proposal, not copy and paste.
i have alot of products that have different variations, so i dont want to have 100's of duplicated images when i just need one, as this will make full my storage capacity.
