MEL Chemistry app is an app that shows molecule 3D structures: [login to view URL] We have made a new feature that now this app can recognize special codes on chemical labels. So you need just to place a bottle next to your smartphone or a tablet device and it will show molecules inside. The final text should be ready in 10 hours until Sep 20th, 8:00pm London time. ================ Here are some thoughts what should be written in the post (unsorted, please build a story using them): * The most difficult thing in understanding chemistry became easier thx to new feature in MEL Chemistry app * One of the most difficult and abstract things in chemistry for kids is to understand that matter properties they see and molecules properties they learn are the same. Indeed all properties of things around us are because of their molecules, their structures and behavior. Connecting those two things together is not easy for kids. It is quite abstract * We introduce special MEL Codes that can be placed on a bottle with a chemistry reagent and MEL Chemistry app will recognize this code when you place this bottle next to the device screen * MEL Codes can also be used for everyday substances like sugar, salt, water to teach kids how those substances look on the molecular level. All kids like to see what is difference between salt and sugar * MEL Chemistry is a subscription for chemistry experiments delivered by post. Since October all MEL Chemistry experiments will use these MEL Codes. * Each reagent container in MEL Chemistry sets will have MEL Codes with a link to a molecule 3D model. * When you conduct an experiment your hands are busy (and often in gloves). So entering reagent name in an app to see more information is not convenience. MEL Codes help to obtain information about a chemical with minimal effort. * Any chemistry teacher can download MEL Codes from MEL Science website ([login to view URL]), print and place these labels on the containers they use in school. After than the students will be able to use their smartphones to see reagent molecule structure while they conducting experiments in a lab * One of the problems in chemistry that many chemicals visually look the same while are completely different substances with different properties. Most of solutions look like water, most of solids look like table salt. It does not help understanding. With MEL Chemistry app and MEL codes student can easily (zero clicks) see what is molecules of this chemical and understand its properties. * Why we had to develop our own code system instead of using some existing one? We needed very robust code system. That work instantly without any errors. It is a question of usability. If you need to wait until the camera focuses, or the codes are read not robust enough you will simply stop using this feature.
