Q1) Consider an Olympic sized swimming pool filled with golf balls and one squash ball. If the golf balls represent silicon atoms, and the squash ball represents a phosphorus atom, what would the resistivity of a silicon piece be with a similar doping level? (Cite your sources for the dimensions of the Olympic pool, golf ball, and squash ball)

I would like to make the answer to a non-specific size of Olympic pool, golf ball and squash ball. However, a few assumptions and approximations are made. Definitions: Volume of Olympic pool = x [cm^3] Volume of golf ball = y [cm^3] Volume of squash ball = y [cm^3] (approximating the volume to the same as golf balls) The packing of the golf balls is a diamond cubic structure with a filling percentage of pi*sqrt(3)/16 ~= 34. Thus, 34% of the pool is filled with golf balls and one squash ball (0.34*x). That volume represents 0.34*x/y number of balls. The number of squash ball to the number of golf balls is then y/(0.34*x). The density of silicon is 5e22cm^-3. If the doping level is y/(0.34*x), the resistivity will be R=1/(q*mu*y/(0.34*x)), where q is the electron charge and mu is the mobility of electron. As an example with arbitrary numbers. x= 100m*10m* 2m = 2e9 cm^3. x=30 cm^3. The doping level will be 5e22cm^-3*4.4e-8 ~= 2.2e15cm^-3. The resistivity will then be 1/(1300*1.6e-19*2.2e15) ~= 2.2 Ohm cm.
