Project Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Cosmetic Chemist to formulate a leave-on infant fragrance based on a specific, premium scent profile (exact fragrance notes to be provided under confidentiality). Because this product is applied directly to a highly permeable, developing skin barrier, safety, stability, and regulatory compliance are our absolute highest priorities. The formula must deliver a high-end sensory experience while being completely allergen-free and mitigating all risks associated with volatile fragrance compounds. Key Objectives & Formulation Requirements • Safety-First Scent Profile: Develop a custom fragrance blend that strictly adheres to IFRA Category 5D limits for leave-on infant products. We expect the chemist to advise on and utilize hypoallergenic, "nature-identical" synthetic compounds or highly refined natural isolates to completely eliminate common allergens, sensitizers, and phototoxic risks typically found in natural essential oils. • Alcohol-Free Base: Formulate a gentle, water-based micro-emulsion (or similar carrier system) that hydrates the skin without the use of ethanol. • Oxidation & Stability Control: Implement a robust antioxidant/preservative system to prevent the oxidation of volatile scent compounds and ensure long-term product stability. • Strict Compliance: Ensure the final formulation complies with all global cosmetic regulations, with a specific requirement to meet Australia's AICIS standards. Scope of Work & Deliverables 1. Consultation & Strategy: Initial review of the provided scent brief and a strategic recommendation on ingredient sourcing to achieve an allergen-free, pediatric-safe profile. 2. Prototyping: Delivery of 2-3 initial physical prototype formulations for sensory and application testing. 3. Testing Coordination: Oversee or advise on mandatory stability testing, Challenge Testing (PET), and necessary dermatological testing to substantiate "Pediatrician Approved" and "Hypoallergenic" label claims. 4. Final Handoff: Provide a finalized, scalable manufacturing formula with precise percentages, a fully compliant INCI ingredient list, and raw material supplier recommendations. Ideal Candidate Profile • Proven commercial experience formulating leave-on pediatric, infant, or sensitive skin products. • Deep understanding of fragrance chemistry, particularly the behavior, risks, and IFRA limits of volatile compounds (e.g., natural allergens, sensitizers, and phototoxicity). • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly translate complex chemical risks into actionable business decisions for the brand founder. I would like to be part of your project in infant fragrance formulation. I have experience in manufacturing personal care products. Under arm products comprise of a variety of formulations dispersed in many different ways, including creams, powders, sticks, squeeze bottles, roll-ons, aerosols, pump sprays, suspension solids, suspension roll-ons, soft solids and gels. Aluminium chloride and aluminium sulfate products are effective antiperspirants. Buffering agents such as glycine and urea along with alcohol solubilizing adjuncts, such as propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol, can be combined with aluminium chlorohydrate. Creams are oil-in-water emulsions which require acid-stable emulsifying agents. SD alcohol 40 is a specially denatured ethanol which contains tert-butyl alcohol and brucine sulfate as the denaturant system. Deodorant sticks are typically based on sodium stearate as the gelling agent for either propylene glycol or alcohol. They also contain an anti-microbial agent, humectant and perfume.
