Dear all, I need a bit of ongoing help in setting up a system to count plastic bottles (and possibly other types of plastic) swimming in rivers. The idea is to have a Raspberry Pi with a camera that sits next to a river and increases a counter by one every time a bottle swims by. The goal is to quantify pollution. Hi. This sounds like a cool usage of machine learning. I actually think that I have another use case for the software, I can mount a GoPro to my road bike and take video. One could use the software to count the amount of plastic along the road and well quantify pollution. Today, I noticed a few as I had already read your project description. Enough digression. I have worked 5 fears as an enterprise software developer, and am currently trying to reinvent myself as a freelancer. I have experience using Raspberry Pis and with tensorflow (I have used tensorflow in a few projects). I am not familiar with the Intel Compute Stick. However, my expectation is that one has less power than a full GPU. So there will be some issues in getting everything to run fast enough. I would start this project by using a simple neural net, that can decide "Does this image contain a plastic bottle?" Such a net can be trained with the available images and should be done within two days, with an additional day or two to get it running on RasPi + Compute Stick. Afterwards, one can move on to implement a more sophisticated neural net that allows localization and tracking of the bottle and thus proper counting. Hello.. I am happy to see your projects. My master degree was in computer vision and indeed help you with this. I worked with Tensorflow before.. bt for your special requirements I think writing custom code from scratch or even using openCV is more suitable.
