The overall objective is to create a unique replacement for the average fruit bowl. It will be made from a rectangular block whereby its top surface will have a relief that will mimic a hilly landscape. This is the items main feature and it will allow it to “cradle” fruit. The model drawn should be suitable for CNC machining. The fruit holder will be made from a rectangular block of 47MM thick wood. The top surface of the block will have a relief that mimics a “hilly” landscape. These mounds will also act as cradles for the fruit. These contour profiles will look like bunch of hills and valleys. To help visualize the concept I have attached a product with a similar relief. Versions of the one design will be required in different physical and file (accuracy/quality) sizes across a number of 3D file formats. The following steps outline our design process (milestone system) Design and CNC machining validation 1. The 3D modeler will create deigns based on our below description and will send them to us for inspection. If needed, design alterations will be requested until we have a design that fits the description. We will then use the model for CNC testing. Further design alterations may have to be made at this point. File versions 2. Once a design has been physically validated, the modeler will send us versions of the model different physical and file (accuracy/quality) sizes across a number of 3D file formats. General and design criteria for the project 1. The item have relief that replicates a hilly landscape which will be able to cradle fruit effectively 2. The item will be able to be milled with a tool of 10MM diameter 3. Further versions of the validated model will be sent in different sizes and different file sizes(quality/accuracy) across 3 file types 1. The item have relief that replicates a hilly landscape which will be able to cradle fruit effectively A. There should be a sufficient amount of pockets for maximum cradle-ability of fruit B. The majority of the mounds will be individually profiled and placed in a randomish array whereby they will be no less than 50mm distance between mound peaks (roughly). C. The top of the mounds will be a maximum of 45MM high. D. The peak of the mounds will be positioned close to the edges (sides) of the block, so as to stop fruit rolling off it. E. The thinnest part (bottom of “valleys”) of the relief will be no less than 20MM F. The relief will be totally smooth to allow for efficient CNC machining. The overall relief effect will be similar to a hilly landscape. To help visualize the concept I have attached a product with a similar relief. Two sizes of the model will be required ( smaller one can be a “section” of larger design) • 300 mm x 215mm • 285mm x 180mm 2. Will be able to be milled with a tool of 10mm diameter A. We will be using a 10MM diameter ballnosed cutter to machine the piece. Therefore any profile should have a fillet radius of at least 5MM 3. Further versions of the validated model will be sent in different sizes and different file sizes (quality/accuracy) across 3 file types The following version sets of the model will be sent across STL, IGES and STEP file formats. Small(file size) Med(file size) Large(file size) 300 x 215mm x x X 285 x 180mm x x X There therefore will be 18 different versions of the model. As noted the smaller size can be a section of the larger size. Milestone system Design and CNC machining validation 1. The 3D modeler will create deigns based on our above brief. They will then send to us for inspection. If needed, design alterations will be requested until we have a design that we are happy with. We will then use the model for CNC testing. Further design alterations may have to be made at this point. File versions 2. Once a design has been verified, the modeler will send us versions of it different physical and file (accuracy/quality) sizes across a number of 3D file formats.
