Ek het in 2001 in die Suid-Afrikaanse uitgewersbedryf begin werk (eers voltyds by Maskew Miller Longman en daarna vryskut) en is nie net 'n vertaler nie, maar doen ook redigering en proefleeswerk. Ek het al soveel boeke vertaal dat ek hulle nie eens meer almal kan onthou nie. Dit was meestal handboeke. Een waaraan ek wel so vinnig kan dink is 'Themba', 'n jeugboek deur Lutz van Dijk, wat ek vir Shuters vertaal het. Daar was ook 'n reeks boekies vir Pearson Education: 'Ontdek Strande', 'Ontdek Spinnekoppe', ens. In my Freelancer-portefeulje is daar 'n uittreksel uit 'n Boereoorlogdagboek wat ek uit die ou Transvaalse Hollands in Afrikaans vertaal het. Ek brand om weer vertaalwerk te doen en sal verskriklik graag aan hierdie projek wil werk. (My bod is gebaseer op 40c per woord vir 20 000 woorde en dan rofweg in dollar omgeskakel. Ons kan natuurlik oor die fooi onderhandel.) Ek sal met graagte 'n vertaaltoets aflê, sou jy dit verkies. Would love to discuss. 1st language Afrikaans speakers (my wife and I). She would be interested in doing this. She is a former qualified Speech Therapist, but I supply more detail about her and her extensive Language skills. When you find your candidates it will be advisable to rather work on a "time based" project payment bases, calculated back to the amount of words, as Freelancer's commission is less on that. Per word, in American cents, we will probably be looking in the region of 4c Academic, 3c Adult Fiction and 2c Children Fiction translation.
