I’m running a focused research project on how new users onboard into self-custody crypto wallets, with a strong emphasis on backup and recovery setup. The goal is to understand how users: interpret recovery phrases approach wallet security make decisions during onboarding react to responsibility in self-custody This project is about identifying real friction points and risky behaviors, and turning them into clear, actionable insights. What needs to be done You will help design and run a small user research study (remote is perfectly fine), focused on first-time wallet onboarding. This may include: recreating a first-time wallet setup experience observing how users handle backup and recovery steps identifying confusion, hesitation, or mistakes collecting both quantitative signals (completion time, errors) and qualitative insights (thought process, trust, emotions) Expected output A structured summary of key findings Clear identification of friction points and risks Explanation of why users struggle at specific steps Practical recommendations to improve onboarding UX Optional: recordings, notes, or annotated screenshots Ideal candidate You are a good fit if you: have experience in UX research, product research, or user testing understand crypto basics (especially wallets and self-custody) can think from a user perspective, not just technical are able to clearly explain behavior and patterns Bonus if you: have used self-custody wallets yourself understand recovery phrases and wallet security have worked on fintech / crypto / onboarding flows Goal The end result should help make self-custody onboarding: clearer safer easier to understand without oversimplifying critical security concepts

This is a strong match for my skill set. I have successfully run remote user research studies focused on onboarding experiences, paying close attention to recovery phrase interpretation and backup handling. Many overlook subtle hesitation during backup setup, which often signals deeper confusion. I will keep the study clear and systematic, combining quantitative data with qualitative insights to explain why users struggle and how to improve the flow. Reach out for a free consultation, happy to share a clear next step with no expectations. Stef

Hi there, The leap to a 12-to-24-word recovery phrase is the single most intimidating moment for a new crypto user. I can help you map out exactly where that friction happens and how to fix it. I have a strong understanding of crypto self-custody mechanics and know how to bridge the gap between technical security and user-friendly design. How I will run this study: Remote Moderated Testing: Observing first-time users setting up dummy wallets to capture authentic reactions and hesitation. Data Collection: Tracking quantitative signals (error rates, time spent on backup screens) alongside qualitative feedback (trust levels, confusion, "think-aloud" commentary). What you will receive: A structured summary identifying high-risk behaviors and critical friction points. Clear, actionable recommendations to improve the onboarding UX without compromising security. Session notes and annotated screenshots. I would love to help make your onboarding clearer and safer. Let’s connect to discuss the specific wallet flows you want to test. Best regards, Syazlee Putra

Hi, I read your project carefully, and this is not a typical data task—it’s a behavioral UX research problem around first-time crypto wallet onboarding. Here’s how I would approach it: 1. Recreate a real first-time onboarding flow using a self-custody wallet (like MetaMask or Trust Wallet) 2. Document each step with screen recordings and timestamps 3. Track key friction points: - confusion around recovery phrases - hesitation during security steps - errors or repeated actions 4. Simulate a new user mindset and, if needed, involve 1–2 additional testers for unbiased behavior 5. Analyze both: - quantitative signals (time taken, errors) - qualitative insights (decision-making, trust, confusion) Final output will include: - structured report of findings - clear friction points and risky behaviors - explanation of why users struggle - actionable UX improvements (not generic advice) I may not come from a formal UX background, but I focus on breaking down user behavior step-by-step and turning it into clear, practical insights. Before I begin, I’d like to clarify: - Do you want testing on a specific wallet? - Should this focus on mobile, desktop, or both? If done properly, this can reveal critical onboarding risks that most users won’t explicitly report. Let me know if you want me to proceed.

Hi! I went through your brief carefully. The core challenge here isn't really about crypto, it's about how users process high-stakes responsibility during onboarding. The recovery phrase moment asks a first-time user to trust a system they don't fully understand yet, while taking on irreversible accountability. That's a UX problem at its core. I'm a Google-certified UX/UI Designer with hands-on experience in user research methodologies, think-aloud protocols, friction mapping, and behavioral observation. For this study I'd recreate the first-time onboarding experience, document hesitation and decision-making during backup setup, and collect both completion signals and qualitative observations. The output would be a structured summary of friction points, why they happen, and practical recommendations to improve clarity without compromising security. One question: do you have a specific wallet you want tested, or should I choose based on what's most representative of your target users? — Azra
