Extract text data from ADobe Acrobat

I need an API written for current versions of Adobe Acrobat that will extract text contained in a table or in columns and rows around graphic information.
Once extracted, Excel needs to be opened and each individual string of text needs to be placed into an individual cell in Excel.
The text should be arranged spacially similar to the location of the text in the pdf file, so it would need to be in rows and columns as it was seen in Acrobat.
This API should work on any version of Acrobat that runs API files (not the reader, but a more complete version of Acrobat).
