I am building a website where I will host a large library of charts - think of any kind of statistics (e.g. published by governments, organizations, or even individuals). This project is basically a consultation on how this website can be built. While I have some web development experience before I start this project I wanted to consult an expert in the field. What I want the consultation to include is: The resources needed for such project (what kind of servers, etc.); Recommendations for a CMS that could be used, or, ideally, a list of CMS with pros and cons; Information on what will be needed to store the data; Any parts of the website that will have to be implemented manually and an estimate for the time that it might take and number of people needed. Of course, if wanted, the consultant later on can be hired and work on the project itself. This is a low-budget project so ideally it should be built using a CMS and existing plugins.
So the idea for the project is quite straightforward - this will be a website that will aggregate a large amount of statistics (millions of charts). The charts will be categorized as such: language -> category -> topic -> charts. The charts will be published using an API on the website and will be a simple iframe or HTML snippet. The website will start off as a library and later on will evolve into a more powerful platform where one can use the data from different charts and create new charts/write stories using the charts - so the website has to use a CMS that would be flexible enough to support such features.
What I'm expecting from this consultation is a document explaining the process of building this website, and/or a call explaining it further if any questions arise. Also, any other tips would be welcome. Thanks!
