A Robust, Low Power Communication Architecture for Nano-satellites

With the increasing number of small scale satellites being launched, there is a growing need to make the communication system as simple, power efficient, and robust as possible. Satellite parts are prone to failure due to the harsh radiation from space. Examples of possible failures are single event latch ups and single event upsets. If a receiver encounters a fault, the ground station user is not allowed to remotely control the satellite.

Implementation of COTS Components for CubeSat Applications

This paper describes the design and testing of the power and communication subsystems for a 2U-class CubeSat. Solar power conditioning is achieved using a unique integrated MPPT solution from STMicroelectronics, the SPV1040. The battery is interfaced to the system through a protection and monitoring circuit consisting of the Maxim DS2764. The LTC4066 from Linear Technology, a battery charger is used to charge the battery and supply the system load.

Design and Analysis of Antennas for a Nano-Satellite

This paper describes the simulations, practical tests and analysis carried out for monopole and dipole antennas for nano-satellites. The antennas are designed for a 2U nano-satellite. With the monopole and dipole antenna designed to operate in the amateur VHF & UHF bands respectively. The antennas are made of steel tapes, which are obtained from measuring tapes. The antennas have a width of 6mm and thickness 0.2mm.
