## BIO I am a professional Software Developer who has worked in IT for 12 years. I am now working freelance, after spending 5 years working as a contractor for a number of top UK companies. I aim to provide a quality service, utilising the experience I have gained. Below are details of the companies I have worked for: **September 2000 – December 2001 Astrazeneca : Java Analyst Programmer** Design and development of a software system analysing scientific results from genetic research conducted by scientists around the world. The system was J2EE based, using an n-tier architecture. The presentation layer was HTML delivered by a series of Java Server Pages (JSP) utilising customised tags to keep Java code separate from presentation code, and XML. The Business layer was a combination of Java Business Objects and Enterprise Java Beans (EJB). The data access layer was a series of Java classes which utilised JDBC to connect to an Oracle 8i data warehouse. The system was designed using UML with Rational Rose as the CASE tool. Both Weblogic and Jrun were utilised as application servers to ensure vendor independence. The development environment was Borland Jbuilder. Enhance and maintain a Microsoft ASP site, connecting to a MS Access database. **1998- July 2000 National Power: Analyst Programmer** Developed a Java client application to automatically convert files from one format to another and import into an Oracle database. This was carried out using JDK 1.2, utilising swing for the user interface and JDBC for connectivity to an Oracle 8i database running on an IBM mainframe. The application was active 24 hours a day in order to scan a directory looking for new files. Whenever a new file was detected, it was archived, translated, validated, and imported into the database. Logs of all activity was kept. Designed and built a Data Warehouse. This involved interviewing end users, design of the warehouse from first principles, review of data staging tools (Datastage, decisionstream), review of reporting tools, developing and co-ordinating the code development (PL/SQL), and final delivery to business users. The development environment consisted of four Oracle 8i Databases running on an IBM mainframe, for development, system test, user acceptance test and production of the Data Staging database, and four Oracle 8i Databases for the presentation database. The design followed the Kimball methodology, consisting of Data Extraction, Data Cleansing and Transformation, rapidly changing dimensions, surrogate keys, fact tables and aggregate tables. Implementation utilised Oracle 8i Object Oriented PL/SQL and Oracle Forms. Reporting utilised Business Objects and Oracle Reports. **1993-1998 Pilot Systems: Senior Analyst Programmer** Senior analyst programmer in a team of seven software engineers in an Oracle client/server software development. I was responsible for systems analysis, design, coding, testing, project management, budgeting, installation and administration of an Oracle 7.3 database. This was developed for a large electricity utility to perform half-hourly data collection from electricity meters, conforming to the 1998 pooling and settlement [login to view URL] development was in C++, Java (JDK 1.1, Borland Jbuilder, JSP), HTML, Delphi and PL/SQL connecting to the Oracle database via Oracle SQL Net. Systems Analysis was performed using a number of techniques from SSADM. Developed a suite of platform independent C++ class libraries to form a foundation for future developments. These were targeted for DOS, Windows and UNIX and were utilised by all members of the company on a wide range of products. Developed an automated electronic meter reading system. This consisted of Hand Held Computers communicating with electronic meters via optical probes, and sending data back to a central computer via modem. Installed and administered a Novell Local Area Network, which was later expanded to a Wide Area Network using ISDN lines and routers. Developed and managed an ISO9000 / TickIt quality system. **1989-1993 GEC Meters: Analyst Programmer** Analyst Programmer for a software development in a team of five software engineers. Software was developed in C, C++ and Windows API. Network administrator for a thirty user IBM Token ring network. Customer support. Developed an ISO9000 quality system. ## Area of Expertise | Server Side Development | J2EE, JDK, JDBC, EJB, JSP, Servlets, Microsoft ASP | | Application Servers | Weblogic, Jrun, Tomcat | | Development Environments | Borland JBuilder 6 | | Databases | Oracle 7 / 8i, SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports | | Web Page Development | HTML, Javascript, Dreamweaver | | Languages | Java (Sun Certified), C, C++ | | Reporting | Business Objects | | Operating Systems | Windows 95 / 98 / NT / 2000 | | Others | Data Warehousing |
