The concept of Performance Management has gained significant importance due to its increasing significance for organizations operating across the globe. The phenomenon is not new, however the process and systems of conducting performance management and appraisals have massively changed over the last 100 years. According to Brooks (2015), WD Scoll invented and documented a performance management and appraisal system in the early 1900s. It was not widely recognized that time, until the implementation of more formal performance management systems around the mid-century by a large number of organizations. The formal systems implementation became common by the mid-1950s, with companies, for measuring and managing performance, started using personality-based systems. However, these system did not perform well due their capability of monitoring the inherited personality of a person, rate then monitoring performance.
