This is a detailed article on the performance of the individual players that made up the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, on their way to bagging a ticket to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Nigeria won the sole African Group B ticket for a sixth World Cup appearance.This article focuses on the role each player played, their strength, weakness down to the number of minutes each player featured in the six matches played. This analysis was done then to potentially serve as a book of record to which the layman can make a reference for personal clarity and a guide for the team's technical crew in an effort to further strengthen the Super Eagles ahead the 2018 World Cup proper.

I wrote this story in 2014 and it's about the descendants of Yoruba (Nigeria, Africa) who were taken as slaves hundreds of years ago. I found out during my visit to Brazil for the FIFA World Cup tournament that despite the fact that most of them had never been to Africa before, the norms that characterise the Yoruba culture back in west Africa, guide these descendants' day-to-day activities. I dicovered that the descendants speak the Yoruba language, adorn the typical Yoruba attire, while their cuisine too also serves as the staple food in Abeokuta, Ibadan, Osogbo or Akure, all of them core Yoruba towns and cities in Nigeria. Remarkably, this story was written in my official capacity as the Sports Editor of the Nigerian Tribune, the oldest private newspaper in Nigeria and it earned me the award in the culture category of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year award in 2015. The CNN award is the most prestigious journalism award in Africa.

This article previews the chances of the three shortlisted footballers for the 2002 FIFA World Footballer of the Year award. The mercurial Zinedine Zidane is an everyday winner and in the particular year under review, he led his club side Real Madrid to win the UEFA Champions League. Notably, Zizou scored a sublime goal against Bayer Leverkusen in the final to underline his quality. German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is the first shot stopper to make the final shortlist of the FIFA footballer award in its 11th year at the time. The third nominee Ronaldo da Lima made the cut again after his first full year back in action from a nagging injury since November 1999. After a thorough analysis, this article concludes that 'The Phenomenon' stands the best chance to bag the 2002 FIFA player gong, with eight goals at the World Cup (two of which were against one of his co-contenders Kahn), thus the pun on the headline - 'Kahn Zidane stop Ronaldo?'
