Contest Brief

**Edit: The original artist has written me back and is still available. This contest will now be as a back-up role for promotional images and such, rather than the main comic. Be advised!**

Hello,

---
Contest: Create a promotional, full-color image featuring characters in the attached images, in as close to the same style as possible. Winner becomes our backup artist to create manga on a regular basis with regular pay. Image should be cute and fun, all of the girls having lunch together.

* There is no guarantee that the winner will become our backup artist. We need your skills to be where our original artist's are. The prize money is guaranteed, but the contract is not unless you are where we need you to be.*
---

Details:

Recently some colleagues and I started putting together a project to create a webcomic/manga. We commissioned an artist to help us, and he is fantastic. However, that person has fallen off the grid for the past month - and now we need a backup that is able to draw manga in a style that is virtually identical to the original artist (slight variation is OK). It's a pretty classic manga style, so it's not a huge stretch. You will need to be able to draw and provide me with consistent work on a weekly basis with monthly pay. Scripts have already been created - you will need to illustrate them (mostly black and white, some color.)

I have provided many examples of our primary artist's work. You will work in his place until he returns (or if he never does, indefinitely).

Be prepared to draw cute stuff, some dark stuff, some ecchi. If you have restrictions on that, please consider that need before entering the contest.

Here are some details of the characters for artists:

Character Biographies

Erin Oaks (brown ponytail) is the classic too-good-for-you rich girl. Born into affluence, and pretty much swam in it ever since, this Junior feels she can accomplish anything, or just pay someone else to do it for her. Having no idea how to even use a computer, she joined the Coding Club as a Quality Assurance engineer in hopes of meeting cute boys.

Adilyn Small (Scientist) (Dirty blond hair) is a scientist mad-genius who’s convinced she doesn’t need friends - she can just build them. Coerced into joining the Coding Club as club membership was was required to participate in the Science Fair, genius Adilyn finds herself having to put up with both real people and her sassy creation at the same time while trying not to lose patience.

&DERS; (Anne-Ders) (Short brown hair, purple hoodie) is an artificial intelligence unit developed by Adilyn for the Science Fair. Sweet and naive, this tall robotic girl eventually joins the high school roster and the Coding Club, where she greatly exceeds the levels of competence of her peers. Proficient at coding, basketball and pool.

Andi Candiland (Brown hair, orange hoodie) is a farm girl who grew up in the rural areas surrounding the big city, and all of her friends were animals. Taking special care of three guinea pigs, they quickly became her best (and only) friends. Longing for human friends, she joined the Coding Club with her limited skills in hopes that it would lead her to a functioning social life.

Ashley Gold (Blond hair) is a sweet-to-a-fault girl who grew up in the rougher neighborhoods of the big city. While naturally a coding genius, Ashley has a sloth-like personality; doing just enough to eat and survive unless prompted by outside forces. Unwilling to go to school at all, she was signed up for the Coding Club by her one and only friend.

Thyme Hiddle (black hair, heterochromic) is a girl from the same region as Ashley Gold and is her only friend. Grumpy and frustrated with poorly made websites, Thyme joined the coding club in hopes of saving the world through good code, or at least making it less stupid. Hopelessly addicted to root beer, Thyme enjoys coding, solitude, deep conversation, and hard core music.

Is this biased towards digital art or can a traditional illustrator get a good chance?

Given that the original artist has returned at this point, the winner would play a backup role and produce some promotional materials. A traditional illustrator would have his creations scanned and used on the website as well as printed materials, etc.

It's not really about the medium; it's about the skill level.

I took a look, it's not bad, but I need more of a softer, realistic feel to the lines. Our original artist was very good and I know I'm asking a lot.

No size necessary. It's all about the skill level.
